Still problems with the Forum. Sorry but according to Support it is a DNS issue where changes have not caught up with Server locations. This should clear up in a bit they say. lots of features are being rolled out from Lefora that are also creating bugs like the inability to change Signatures.
Re: Leap from DSL to BB

I am still waiting the leap from mule delivered Internet to having a connection within 3-5 business days. DSL is promised in the near future - next month they tell me.
(I thought anything not dialup was broadband?)

Hmm.. Unable to load images this morning. So the Forum is without the Header image for a while. Luckily the background image was already loaded.

Let me be the first to bow to our new Forum Overlord Welan. May the lint between his flippers overflow endlessly. (Happy BD Welan).
When sobriety hits me I may regret this. Would not be the first time.

... I put tabasco on just about everything.
-jonathanr
I remember friends from back in my Navy years that did the same. Heck I swore they put it into their coffee. Never did much care for Tabasco although I do like jalapeños and many of the chili peppers (mostly the milder varieties) and always liked cayenne pepper (never considered it being all that spicy though other people say it really affects them).

Some oddness.

Sorry, there seems to be some odd things going on with the looks tonight. Lefora is adding Favicons and repairing the Signature display. I notice some Avatars have disappeared though I expect they will be fixed before long.

Smashin Pumpkins? Wasn't there some kind of Jazz ensemble named that?
Hey, I went blind.

Green Pumpkins??? Perhaps you are thinking of watermelons. Those are traditionally carved on the June Solstice to celebrate the banishment of Windows (sorry I mean Winter).

Windows 7
October 22, 2009 by mattb4
In honor of the Halloween Holiday MS has released the latest in the Horror series "Windows". Early reviews say this one is not as scary as the last (Vista) but packs many terrifying moments. Of course there is the old standard where the victim unknowingly enters into a unbreakable compact with the devil (EULA).
Victims are lulled into a feeling that this time they will survive and not be turned into Zombies (Not likely, it is a horror OS after all), as they start the infernal machine going. After as much as 20+ hours of loading the computer boots up with evil incarnate (otherwise known as the Welcome Screen). At this point there is no going back.
Time will tell if MS has released a classic or another dud. Of course fans will go to use it, so it should have a good opening, but after that we will just have to see.

I will carry a cell phone when they force it into my cold dead hands
. The things are worse than being stuck with carrying a pager about.
Though the lost of pay phones is a major problem when having to don the cape and leotards. Not to mention that the Doctor can not just park the Tardis anywhere like he was used to. And then there is the jobs lost for all the telephone sanitizers (though I heard that many are taking a retirement cruise as part of a job buyout).

Yeah the population of coots is getting out of hand (re: the person at the pay phone). Back in my days they were nearly extinct. Conservation and protection of their Native habitat (Florida) has resulted in a major comeback of the critters. Now they are everywhere and a major nuisance to young people.
So not surprising, when you were dialing up a number at the pay phone, that in the line behind you calmly waiting their turn, someone would spot some "coots" wandering about. The critters are worse than pigeons. As for the "crazy old" appellation it probably meant the speaker had a fondness for them. Thus his bantering tone.

Glad to have you back on the Forum and functioning Jonathanr. Sorry to hear of your continuing health problems, diabetes is no joke. As for the job situation in the US, it is bad for a lot of people. Though the official statistics say about 10% (never did like the survey method used) certain classes of people such as males are running close to 20%, teenagers are over 30% (some say its a mancession instead of a recession).

I tried dialing one of those phone itouchscreen thingies. After spinning it around for each number it failed to even get the operator to answer. I think they should put the numbers around it like a proper phone dial.

I believe it is called "Leforasaurus". It will be interesting if they allow individual forums to put up their own favicon. Anyone got a design idea?

A Password export option for FF sounds sweet. I took screenshots of mine since I did not know of any other method. Thanks for the tip!
