I was offline due to illness. The last few months have been hell for me. It reminds me of a cowboy song. I lost my job and lost my truck. In the past couple months I have been job hunting. The prey is to elusive for me. However, returning from the scent of the prey in August, I had yet another seizure. I had been having quite a few seizures since I lost my job May 28th. Some where due to low blood sugar. You can actually read my posts and efforts here http://www.diabetesforums.com/forum/
I want to jump back into openSUSE and start contributing again, but I'm not sure where. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions about my health. My diabetes is extremely brittle. One unit to much and I crash. I end up with hypoglycemia.
Glad to have you back on the Forum and functioning Jonathanr. Sorry to hear of your continuing health problems, diabetes is no joke. As for the job situation in the US, it is bad for a lot of people. Though the official statistics say about 10% (never did like the survey method used) certain classes of people such as males are running close to 20%, teenagers are over 30% (some say its a mancession instead of a recession).
Sorry to hear of your troubles. I know some of what you're going through, having been married to a brittle diabetic for the last 30 years. It's a constant watch affecting every aspect of your life, every day, with no vacations. My wife has only had a few seizures (that I know of), the first on our honeymoon (we were thinking of things other than regular meals
), but I have nursed her through many episodes when she was off her meter's range. It can be extremely frustrating and depressing.
But don't give up. I know nothing of your personal life, family and friends, but I know you have had a very positive contribution to the Linux community. And even cowboy songs can have happy endings.
And it good to have you back. Keep us posted.
Thank you all. It's very kind. Because I am brittle and have seizures, I created a diabetic log. Here is what I track. No joke. Bozo, if you want this for your wife, let me know. As you can see, I track a lot. I have attached the log for those who want it. It's in a spreadsheet format.

Thank you, jonathan. I'll pass it along. She has her own format which she scratches in sort of shorthand/code on old envelopes. She has resisted computerization with great gusto. Not quite a Luddite, but close.
It seems I may have asked before, but my mind has been going lately, along with other things, have you tried a pump? Her first one she had to dilute the insulin to have a big enough quantity to measure accurately, but her new one is working quite satisfactorily "out of the box". She has the same struggle as you, she says even half a unit or less can make a difference, but it's been tough to measure that small an amount. That's why she was diluting, essentially making U-50 out of U-100.

We are working on getting a pump. I see my endo next month. It's just my sugars can be lik 200 to 400 right? My formula is (BG-120)/24. A lot of times I have to modify this, or I'm to low. So if my BG is 415, then I subtract 120, cause that's my goal, and then divide by 24 since that's about the best I can do to get to my insulin to carb ratio. And that's only the first part of my formula. That only factors for the amount that I am over. When I eat it's a bit simpler. The amount of carbs divided by 20.
When I exercise I have to take the answer from my formula and subtract 2 to 4, depending. Which is why I'm trying to calculate calories burned. Really, I want to know how many carbs I am burning. I am working on that aspect.
You can download the spreadsheet, go to November, and print that. She doesn't have to use computer stuff if she doesn't want to. The main thing is, notice how detailed the log is. Notice how many things I track.
Yeoww.. pretty involved! Its good you have created something to stay abreast of it all.
