Though the story is too long for me to recount here, the CFO had a weak moment and shook loose the funds to let me get this:
UPS assures me it will be here Wednesday! Just in time for a road trip to see my granddaughter on Thursday! I would be grateful if anybody who has had experience with Suse on a Presario could relate it to me, especially things I should watch out for. The only thing I couldn't find out from the specs was the wifi chip used, but that doesn't seem to be the problem it once was, so I'm not too worried. Everything else looked to be Linux compatible.
And just possibly the best thing is (since it comes pre-loaded and I probably won't have time to change things before I get back) I get to have the vista experience! ![]()

Sounds like a nice un, Bozo. You will have to relate what you see from your new Vista. Hopefully it is not of the Municipal garbage dump.
That's probably where the new vista is headed as soon as I get back, or maybe I'll try dual booting and see what happens, although I can't imagine what I'd use vista for once I got Suse up and running.
Keep vista around for those masochist moments. Now you'll be able to upgrade vista to windows 7 for $50 or something like that. Saw a note at work today.
You could put your vista for sale in the classifieds of this forum - I doubt if you would get much for it !!
It got here late yesterday afternoon! Almost missed it though, because the UPS man left it by a tree about halfway up the driveway. Don't know what he was thinking.
Had to head to my wife's house for the evening, so I took it along and charged the battery over there. Just before I left, my wife wanted to see what it looked like, so I turned it on and got stuck by the two EULA's. microsoft's is the usual stuff, and has been well discussed and cussed here in the forum. But the second one was from HP/Compaq. I'll have to re-read it, but I think what it said was that if I added or changed the installed software (like remove vista and install Suse) and they didn't like it, and I KNOW it said very plainly that if I didn't accept the EULA, I COULDN'T USE THE COMPUTER!. In other words, according to them, I do not own the hardware, they are just licenseing me to use it. This is crazy. But I couldn't bring myself to accept the thing without reading it over better first. Sheesh.
More when I get back.
