I not very inclined to garden. Don't really have space or energy after work during the week and on the weekends its farming and/or truck pulls.
Looks nice. I am a less than enthusiastic gardener, but my love for the fresh veggies makes it worth it. I've messed up over the last few years and the garden space has become almost useless. I've been cleaning it up, but because of state laws and the desire to keep my house from burning most of my time has been cleaning up with a view to fire protection, not gardening. Also, the neighbors have a California buckeye that has become huge, casting much of the garden area into deep shade. To garden around here you need to have a seven foot fence around it or the deer destroy your garden, and my fence has fallen into disrepair. Maybe next year I'll have things in good enough shape that I can get some seeds in the ground.
My wife rejoices in what she calls gardening, but what I call puttering around with plants. She'll pant two pea plants, one tomato plant, three or four bean plants, and rejoices when she gets five pea pods ripe at the same time, or two cherry tomatoes, or a half dozen green beans. These get split three ways for dinner, giving merely a tease of that fresh veggie flavor without really satisfying. But I guess she at least gets something; it's more than I've produced for a number of years.
You say "growing mold on old pizza crusts" like that's something bad.
I imported blew up you picture and sharpened it a bit, after a little tweaking, I finally saw what Mattb was really growing. It's America's number one cash crop: that's right, OREGANO!! Now we know what makes his spaghetti and meatballs so popular down at the retirement home with the arthritis and glaucoma sufferers.
Mattb, in the wilds of Arkansas, and living alife reminiscent of the moonshiners in the great depression who were constantly on the look out for revenuers and gave birth to NASCAR (tm)
Well it is the Not So Great Depression this time around KS. And you can keep your California Legalization of Oregano. It would put the annual Helicopter Harvest boys out of a job and not to mention impact the Sheriffs re-election hopes. I would miss not watching them search the woods for illicit gardens each Summer.
The Revenooers get peppered any thyme they come sneaking around through the herbs.
If your area is anything like ours it just grows in the wild.
I am not sure here...did I upset mattb, or did I get a chuckle? And you know I don't live in California! Where I live tomatoes are wild as well.
Sorry KS, I did get a chuckle. But to explain the rest of the story to the Rural Challenged Folks:
In my County, in the Wilds of Arkansas, the Authorities conduct a annual search for Illicit plants from National Guard Helicopters. After they find such illicit crops, the County Sheriff and his Deputies raid and cut the offending vegetation down. They subsequently haul it to a place for Burning and get their picture taken for the Local Papers. There is the usual announcement of "Street Value" that is odd since we do not have much value in our Local Streets. This ensures the Local Populace's respect in the ongoing fight to re-elect the Local Sheriff. As BDQ stated, there is a fair amount of natural growth each year.
Though rarely does anyone get arrested (Last year the only announced arrest was for someone growing a illicit herb in a planter on their front porch in Town), Nevertheless much fun is had by all.
Sorry to connect you with Californians, heck they aren't all bad uns.
