But you cant so anyone using it for this purpose is either blanket bombing to which it will have no effect why, well I would be very surprised if the forum isn't turning links into nofollow seeming as I can find mention of it as early as 2005 with this mod..

You made me look at seo not so long ago ;) making the site is the easy bit, seo is a field in it self.

Spammers aren't spamming just for the exposure it's all about creating links that increase pagerank.

I still think they are taking this too far, so what if a few people wish to promote xyz let them. Don't about you but I rarely read sigs and going on the amount of people I've helped that can't find the answer with google don't think many read mine.

So tell me if I'm wrong; the whole long page of T&C's (and most EULAs) could be condensed to:

"Hope you enjoy the use of the forums; if the forums cause any problems whatsoever, that's your problem, not ours. And if the staff doesn't like anything that's posted, we'll remove it, and you can't do anything about it."

And you wanted lawyers to write a new T&C for us? We don't need no stinkin' weas, er, lawyers!

Why you continue to get credit offers is indeed a large mystery. As is why I do. When I was first married, eons ago, I kept getting credit card offers, supposedly pre-approved, so I thought it might be nice to have a card for emergencies (the only time I will use a credit card), but when I mailed them back, credit was refused! (Because I was too young and had no credit history; I guess that doesn't matter these days.) Pre-approved? I still throw several trees worth of those things out every year. Along with the notices that I need to extend my car's warranty (never having owned a new car, I've never had a car with a warranty), and offers to refinance my mortgage (both houses have been paid for for years, and I have never even considered getting another mortgage.) You have to wonder where these guys get their lists and if they do any research at all on who they send their mailings to.

Sad news everyone. I see the Official Forum has closed the Knowledge Pool just as it was starting to get hot this Summer. Now for me, I would just loaf about in the shallow end. There are many however who prefer going off the deep end. I guess I will have to stick to the small pond out back for keeping cool.

I guess the pool is just another victim of Economics or Global Warming or Extended Car Warranties.

Regarding FM's question. I removed the link to this Forum when I noticed the direction of comments in a Thread where someone had posted about another Forum. I could see what the prevailing sentiment regarding having such things before even the current round when they disabled the ability to post them. It really is not hard to figure which way the frog will jump.

I know the feeling Matt TBH I would of had it in my sig a long time ago but I knew it would be baiting the bear so like you left it well alone.

I wasn't going to get involved until Kgroneman had then I just felt the need to ask, you see a fair few sigs with links to home pages. To be fair even one of our forum members also has a link that could be construed as being against the rules.

@Bozo sad thing is yes that is how I've interpreted and experienced it with a few. I have had 2 conflicts and had both locked on me. I won't lie in one instance I nearly resorted to there level and posted from nttp as they can't lock it from there. Its a shame that a few on the team don't spend more time helping than aggravating..

All these post should be collected and outlines as "This is why we are here not there"
I registered at the new "merged" forum but never posted. There was no need to as I came here ie problem solved for me. I'm sorry to say it but the "other " forum is not a forum. It's a dictatorship.
I'm sure I don't have to explain that to anyone here seeing that alot of us are here for that very reason. A forum is supposed to be a community access (question/answer). As for off topic issues, well we have category for that and we don't get offended by what folks put in their signature as long as it is not offensive in nature to start with. Common sense is the norm here not the acception.
This is just another fine example of someone getting carried away with control. To much control breeds chaos and discontent. (could mean more members here). I could only guess as to weather the almighty "Novell" has anything to do with this control or maybe it's just the people they left to run the "official" forum for them. This is supposed to be "open source" not a communist dictatorship.

I'd like to apologize for the above post. Seems I got off into a bit of a rift. I'm not going to edit or remove that post because I feel that it does make my point. If any of the other mods feel it was off the page, please feel free to remove it.

Hey we all need to vent now and than.

So long as the venting does not name anyone in particular than (I am looking at you Ms. Hilton) it does little harm and who knows? If a point has logic and validity it might change the way things are.

Vent away, welan, you have to work hard to offend me. And if you do, well, see my sig. If you're offending others, well, see my sig. However, if you're being offensive (and I, at least, see a difference there), we might get to use the PM function. But your, and others, opinion is always welcome, as far as I'm concerned.

As the forum's resident penguin I always try to keep a "cool" out look at all times, but this one just got to me...

It's been a little over a year now & the other forum as far as I see it has become more of a manual for suse not so much a community. There's some who try to lighten the place up a bit, it...it seems the serious & the sensitive took over over there.
Maybe in time there'll be as much traffic here as there. I sincerely hope that we do because this place kind of like the Ubu or PCLOS forums has a backyard bar-b-Q feel to it. Even after a year the other forum fells like more of a meeting than anything else.
However, there is a loophole one can point to this forum from the other in a post. So if you know of a problem that has been solved here you can point people here. Maybe they'll stay & we'll have more to talk to & about!

Having received Fair Warning ( I must say I deserved it this time) about violating the Official Forums T&C, I promised to be good from now on. I wish the Folks over there all success. Many there are selfless in providing the time and expertise in helping out others.

I appreciate all those that do likewise here and my thanks to all who support this Forum. If I should get too Dictatorial let me know and I will change. (I will also send the Goon Squad to pay you a friendly visit to work out the details )
