Let's see, I've got 100% lamb's wool, wool/angora blend, wool/mohair blend, 100% mohair, mostly in natural colors, just a little dyed; it all sounds too warm to me in this wether (wether- a neutered male goat vs. weather; it's a pun)
! But I guess those thinking ahead would be preparing for the upcoming winter.
I suspect we're still here Matt certainly I nearly always open up the forum. ;)
Maybe we could exploit the video aspect of the forum and get some tuts done in video format.
Some time ago I read about a place on the net where you could do live screen shots (a video) that would show doing a process like setting up a Network. Unfortunately I do not have the BW on Dialup to make use of it. It would be a great method of either making a Howto or to show someone who was encountering a problem how to fix.
What I'm suggesting is we do it. You're correct there is a few sites but rather than using an external site(Which I don't think you can embed in, though double posting may have benefit) we use something like youtube and then we can embed. We also make them Suse specific, here I would have to use vmware
. There is many options for screencasting, vmware actually makes it easy as it will record.
I would just need some suggestions I wouldn't mind getting the ball rolling, I just can't do anything graphics related unless it is simple as I have no 3d/compositing.
I think areas that would most help people make use of SUSE are those that seem to come up most often as questions. Certainly a video guide to various YaST functions using the Gui and also the cli would go a along way to get people up and running. Aspects of Partitioning and understanding Grub would be another area. Basics such as the Kde Control center (or the Gnome version) and menu editing is certainly another place a video for folks could be helpful.
Howtos and man pages are great but if folks are just starting they can be rather arcane and intimadating. Thus Video howtos could be a good thing. I know that simple Screenshots can make the world of difference when people encounter dificulties.
Video tutorials seem like a great idea, but for the new user screen shots with detailed walk through may prove more user friendly. Most new users will want to check the info several times as they execute the code/app for the first time. It's much easier to scroll back than replay the video.
Thanks for Co. Jack for reminding me of one site for making walk throughs. http://www.screentoaster.com/
I have not used it but may try it out if I ever get Broadband.
