Ah, yes. The return of that wonderful season when I can finally move out of the deep freeze and set up on the front lawn. Yes, I know that your scratching your head and wondering "What is he talking about". Well for those new or unknowing members of the forum, I am a penguin and the cold suits me well. You didn't think the penguin became the Icon of linux for no special reason did you? Most penguins that have made the jump into modern tech are true linux users and avid supporters of open source. Seeing that we spend long cold winters with not much to do we've become quite good coders. We do bug searches for fun kinda like cross words puzzles. But enough about that. The snow has returned and it's a joyous time of year.
Sardines for everyone!

So instead of lawn chairs you have ice blocks, and pink flamingos are replaced by fur seals?

Thank the maker that the ice recedes every spring otherwise the welan-mutant-penguins-from-hell woulda taken over the world by now and used up all the fish stocks.

Even the fluffy Linux Guroo hat and Penguin slippers are not keeping me warm this Fall. Temperatures hit 16F (-7C) this morning. Never seen it this cold so early with Winter yet to start. At this rate I may have to divert power from everything but Life Support.

Welan, be glad you don't live here (Central California foothills). It's quite capable of getting cold here, but this year it's staying quite warm into the fall. Last week three or four days set new records for the high (mid-70s). It has yet to frost, which is unusual this time of year. Must be that global warming thing I hear about once in a while. But that doesn't explain the Wilds of Arkansas (although they are often out of step with the rest of the world)Smile.

But in my gloating, I should say it's only rained once, also unusual, which is sending the doomsayers into frenzies, warning about drought (Southern Californians won't be able to wash their cars and water their lawns Surprised ) and next year being an even worse fire season. But then, every spring they moan about this is going to be a bad fire year; if it rained it's 'cause the grass is so thick, if it hasn't then because it's so dry. Kinda like this year being Linux's Year of the Desktop.Laughing  But if it's keeping the flatlanders on their toes, I guess I can put up with it.

Well we received more of the dastardly white stuff over the weekend, and are supposed to get more tomorrow morning. Of course on my way home Sunday from the parents my truck decided to not run correctly. Hopefully I can get my precious four wheel drive back before the big storms hit.

I see by todays forecast that the Mid West USA will get quite a bit of snow. I had a skiff the last few days but it has warmed today and is all gone. I note that our Friends in OZ are growing web feet because of all the rains they are experiencing. Hope they had the Ark repaired during the Drought of the last few years.

Once again, The return of nice weather has boosted my spirits. It even came early this year!
Snow and ice are such a wonderful thing, to bad that the humid beans on this forum can't seem to
see and feel the wonderful delights of winter. Since I'll be moving my base of operations back out to the front lawn soon My post count should start to rise again (since I'll have more time) and with all these xeons to help me command my super mondo chillers... well anywayssmile

Won't the heat from all those Xeons tend to *melt* the snow in your immediate vicinity? I could find snow today here if I could only jump 4000'. grin Just have to make do with 6"-8" of rain instead.

Saw on the News that California was being flooded out. Lets see Fires (check), Torrential Rains (check), Mudslides (pending), Monumental Earthquakes (overdue) and the usual political stuff (neverends). Sounds like a normal boring year for you Bozo.smile

@welan:  Noticed the Snow being mentioned in Minnesota and the upper Great Lakes. I expect the Glaciers will be forming up fairly soon. (mutters to myself)  "Now where did I leave my Mammoth hunting call?"

Its currently sleeting here, so those darn xeons aren't making much heat yet.
