For those BT and Virgin subscribers concerned about the immanent Phorm trials, there's a few things you can do to provide some level of protection until you have had time to change your ISP. Install the "dephormation" and "add block plus" add ons to Firefox and block phorm cookies.

good find winxp-escapee!
i wrote to virgin saying i wished to opt out, got a standard reply stating that it won't be forced on anyone and that it will be on an opt-IN basis.

What liars!
I mean personally, i don't want my surfing habbits appearing as adverts when my kids are using the pc so i ensure all cookies etc are deleted when firefox is closed. but i think i will be grabbing the "dephormation" thing :D

On other fair and reasonable trials you have the choice to opt in. In this trial if you do not opt out you opt in by default. Dephormation just makes sure the cookies you receive are set to opt out. You can set up Konqueror similarly except for the dephormation plugin.

UK Government approves phorm! But it's not a done deal yet. Latest here,

The real issue for me is "mission creep" once implemented they will want to extract every last dollar from the system. I believe the urge to use the system for other purposes and other money making schemes will be iresistable. It's just the thin end of the wedge.
